Connections from the story
Pg 96 paragraph # 3
The people in Montag’s society used to live an empty life because they had no knowledge, and they were ignorant. However, people of Montag’s culture accepted for the rules without asking why. This made them also escape from their responsibility toward even the nearest people to live a carefree life. For example, Mrs. Phelps said, “I plunk the children in school nine days out of ten. I put up with them when they come home three days a month; it’s not bad at all. You have them into the “parlor” and turn switch. It’s like washing clothes: stuff laundry in and slam the lid.” Mrs. Phelps also said, “They’d just as soon kick as kiss me thank God, I can kick back.”

Now in our days some families do the same thing but perhaps in many different ways such as: abortions get a baby sitter, the parents’ divorce, and hating the children for making mistakes. For example, some families resort to abortion to escape from the coming responsibility. Many families try to get a baby sitter to take care of their children. This makes these families forget that the children have the right to see their parents and feel safe with them. The parents’ divorce has bad effects on the children. It also makes one of the parents refuse to take the children to live with and leave them to the other parent. Finally, some families refuse to accept their children’s mistakes, so they expel them from the house. These children do not find any place to go to except the street; some of these children become criminals.

Connections from the story
Pg 96 paragraph # 4
Mrs. Bowles and many others in Montag’s world used to vote for the candidate based on the candidate’s name and his physical appearance. For example, when Mrs. Bowles said, “I voted last election, same as everyone, and I laid it on the live for President Noble. I think he’s one of the nicest-looking men ever became president.” Also, she described the man that he was “kind of small, and homely; he did not shave too close, and comb his hair very well.” That shows that in Montag’s society, people did not know how this election was very important to their future. They even did not think how he will serve the country, and they never asked themselves which one of the candidates will be the best for them or for the country. The uneducated life which they used to live made them non thinkers, and do not care about anything. They become unable to do anything, they only able to accept it.

I believe this also happens with some of the Americans. Nowadays people do not care to be a part of the election. Some people give excuses for that by saying, we have our personal problems which take time and have no time to spend it to vote for someone. Sometimes, the candidate is famous, and others will go and vote for him such as George W. Bush.
